Assemblyman Dave Min expressed deep concern about the Republican Congress passing a massive spending bill that includes $170 billion for President Trump’s immigration agenda, including $75 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This funding makes ICE the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency in history.
According to Min, ICE is currently operating as an extra-legal paramilitary force, terrorizing communities with brutal raids, such as the raid on MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, where dozens of ICE agents along with 90 National Guard soldiers mobilized military vehicles to overwhelm a small park. He described ICE agents as often appearing in civilian clothes, with their faces covered, acting aggressively, and attacking civilians, elected officials, and police officers alike.
Assemblyman Min emphasized that unlike real police officers who are bound by regulations and accountable for their actions, ICE agents appear to be unchecked and unpunished. He cited Joe Rogan’s comments and a Cato Institute report, indicating that only 7% of those arrested by ICE had prior felony convictions, with the vast majority targeting law-abiding immigrants.
With increased funding, ICE’s alleged “extra-legal” actions will spread across America. Min called for accountability for ICE’s misconduct and stated that he is leading a letter calling for the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General to investigate the agency’s behavior.
As the son of immigrants, Min asserted that these actions are not only an attack on the law but also a negation of core American values, and he vowed to continue fighting to protect the Constitution and those he represents.
