Crews in Conshohocken worked diligently on Tuesday, clearing massive snow piles from Fayette Street and temporarily shutting down the busy commercial thoroughfare. Public works teams utilized plows and heavy machinery to load snow onto dump trucks for removal.
Frank Perry, the borough’s director of public works, emphasized the importance of reopening Fayette Street due to its commercial significance. “We just wanted to get Fayette Street cleared because we have a lot of businesses. This is our busiest road,” he stated.
Perry also appealed for patience from residents as cleanup operations continued. “Just be patient, please be patient. We’re working as hard as we can to get this done,” he urged.
Despite the challenging conditions, some businesses along Fayette Street managed to reopen. Tough Nickel Barbershop welcomed customers, with clients parking at the bottom of the hill and walking in. Owner Karen Little expressed her gratitude, noting, “Our front has been shoveled and salted, and we’ve been super lucky. It has been amazing, cold, but we’ll take it.”
In nearby residential areas, neighbors spent hours clearing snow from their vehicles and parking spaces. Brian Hanlon from Yoga Home was observed clearing a parking spot, stating, “I’m just trying to clear some space here, get all this stuff out so people can get in and out easier.”
For some, the snow day provided an opportunity for winter recreation. At Sutcliffe Park, six-year-old Leo Glowacz shared his enthusiasm for “sledding!” as children out of school embraced the spirit of a snow day.
Cleanup efforts are expected to persist as the borough aims to fully reopen roads and remove remaining snow. According to 6abc Action News, the snow emergency was extended to Wednesday afternoon to facilitate these ongoing efforts.
